If you all have seen the entirety of Prana Shala, you have seen that I am a Master Reiki Practitioner. What does that mean? For me, it means that I practice Reiki from a place of humility and awe of the power we have to shift our own consciousness and healing. As a practitioner though, I am not what you would characterize as a "Mindfulness Guru" or even a "Faithful Devotee." My goal is to create balance in my environment. I live in a condensed city (Long Beach/LA County) with lots of conveniences and a lot of action. I know my world is not conducive to a super spiritually driven life but it works for me. I like that I can run to Target and the grocery store all within 5 miles of each other and come home, put Maple down for a nap, scroll through Pinterest and then smudge my house with some Sage and take a few minutes to clear my energy. Whatever environment you are in, you can go as deep as you want. I have met some pretty devoted Reiki and Energy workers here in the city and they have really found what works for them in terms of a deep spiritual practice.
It may sound weird that someone that believes in the power of Reiki is talking about it in such a nonchalant way. In my opinion, Reiki is for everyone. The stay at home mom, the business man, the Teacher, the Fishing Boat Captain and even Children. If we glorify something to the point of Dogma, it usually becomes exclusive and then you have to adopt all the ideals that go along with it. Uh, I don't know about you but that is a little too cult-y for me.
I drink wine and eat meat so there ya' go.
Reiki is inclusive to me and that's why I share it with Maple. She doesn't really need it often since babies are such pure little beings but when she seems a little off, and yes babies wake up on the wrong side of the crib, I send her some Reiki Love. Not only does she perk up, I get the benefits of her energy! I welcome that little bundle of fire into my belly and we connect and chill out together. It's extraordinary!
Teenagers would totally benefit from Reiki as well. They are under so much pressure!! Hormones, grades, social expectations, sports or just competition, their parents. Holy cow! Can you remember being a teenager and trying to find your place and your voice in this world? I sure can. They need all the support they can get.
This is why I would like to offer a FREE consultation
with me via a Q&A email and a discounted Reiki session for your young one. This offering is for the age range of 10-17 because like I said, the wee ones may have a harder time receiving it and by that I mean sitting still. It is a 30 minute session which includes the clearing of energy centers to help lift their mood and de-stress. Yup, you heard it, de-stress. Believe or not, our kids get anxiety and feel stress so relaxing techniques can benefit them just like they benefit you and I. This will be a nurturing and informal session so that Parents or Guardians can sit in on the session. It's an opportunity to see how they respond and how maybe you can implement some calming practices at home.
They are never too young to learn this stuff. It can help them in so many areas of their development and growth particularly in stressful or frustrating situations.
Here are some ways I try to calm Maple when she seems frustrated
+ Cross arms across her chest and say "hugs"
+ Take deep inhalations and long exhalations
+ Raise my arms up and down slowly
+ Sit with her and look into her eyes using no words just using my presence
+ Tickle her to redirect her frustration to feelings of joy and laughter
Sometimes I just tell her NO specifically in dangerous situations like getting into cupboards or Dads change jar. Being firm is not causing trauma, it's setting healthy boundaries. You da' boss!
I hope I hear from some of you and please recommend to a friend that has young ones the idea of energy work and the benefits it holds.
I would love to hear some of your calming strategies as well!
We can all benefit from advice and what works for you can probably work for someone else.
Thanks for reading!
